Capitalise on water-efficient appliances like dishwashers and front-loaders – A dishwasher only uses around 4,380 litres vs hand washing at 36,500 litres per year. A front-loader can operate with 50% less water than top – look at the 5 star water-efficiency rating.
Fix those leaking taps – A leaking tap drips once per second for a day wastes about 30 litres of water. If you waited a year that’s 10,950 litres of water and $$$ down the drain.
Next time you turn on the tap or go to put on half a load, remember that almost 95% of the water will end up down the drain. So think about the things you can do around your home with your family to improve this. If your drainage is easily accessible, why not think about installing a grey water system and save the waste?
